Hard Nosed HINES WARD was named NFL Dirtiest Player! Would MEL BLOUNT make MODERN PANSIES cry for their Mommy?
The fact that a REAL FOOTBALL PLAYER like Hines Ward { that’s actually willing to hit } is considered "someone to watch out for" is a very sad statement on the Pollyanna mentality of Modern players that are just in it for the Dough. Jack Lambert saw it coming when he said in his later career, "Maybe we should start putting skirts on these guys"!
Sure we still have REAL Football Players like Ray Lewis, Brett Favre, and a solid list of others. BUT Real Football players don’t grow on trees anymore. Players that would actually play just as hard if you only paid them a 5 digit salary are a very rare breed.
For NFL players today, to rank a GREAT HARD HITTING FOOTBALL PLAYER AND ROLE MODEL like Hines Ward as "Dirtiest" because he’s, of all things a RECEIVER that will actually hit hard enough to "Lay Guys Out"……is tragically sad.

Those type of polls are all bullshit anyways. A couple of weeks ago a poll said Favre was the most overrated. Yeah, right!

I agree with you.
And he was voted the dirtiest by other NFL players; as you said; meaning these days guys are trying to get 15 yard penalties every time they get hit hard.
It’s kind of sad. And I see players from the 1960’s, ’70’s laughing their butts off. Even more so since today’s NFL players are bigger and stronger than ever.

I totally agree. SI uses words like dirtiest to drum up controversies so people like Peter King have something to write about and it’s a bunch of crap.
Hines Ward was a super bowl MVP for crying out loud.

Ward isn’t a dirty player. But, he is filthy (in a good way). He plays hard and hits hard. And, always with that grin on his mug. If he weren’t a wide receiver, he’d make a great defensive back, a la Rodney Harrison.

It’s because Rodney Harrison already retired.
As far as I know Ward hasn’t been fined this season.
I think Roy "horse collar" Williams is the dirtiest. Actually horse collar tackles are prohibited even in High School Football because of him.

Maybe it’s because he doesn’t shower or use deodorant?
Seriously, was Dante Westely not on the ballot? He had the dirtiest hit all year.
